Palmelo é conhecida como a Capital Espírita do Brasil por ter sido criada em torno de um centro espírita, o Centro Espírita Luz da Verdade (CELV), em 09 de fevereiro de 1929. Uma cidadezinha do interior goiano, localizada à margem direita do córrego Caiapó, com cerca 2.500 habitantes, e que foi emancipada no dia 13 de novembro de 1953. Sua história inicia com o surgimento do espiritismo na região.
O mesmo é considerado uma obra atual e conta a história da cidade de Palmelo que foi criada ao redor e, também por causa, do Centro Espírita Luz da Verdade e está situada no interior de Goiás – GO.
Sendo assim, o documentário inicia mostrando uma Palmelo atual e todos os trabalhos que a Casa Espírita oferece desde as questões espirituais como atendimentos, mediunidade de uma forma geral até a caridade assistencial.
Depois, a obra vai discorrendo sobre os médiuns e seus trabalhos internos e externos e também como surgiu a cidade e a Casa Espírita que teve o seu fundador um dos alunos de Eurípedes Barsanulfo chamado Jerônimo Candinho.
Ao mesmo tempo que a história é contada, depoimentos dos moradores e trabalhadores do local vão sendo mostrados e, com isso, o telespectador vai acompanhando o desenrolar da narrativa com passado e presente, pois após a emancipação da cidade em 1953, outos locais espirituais surgiram na região como a escola que leva o nome do fundador da cidade feat. Centro Espírita.
O documentário Palmelo – A Cidade dos Espíritos chama a atenção por ser bem parecida com Abadiânia, Uberaba/ Pedro Leopoldo e Congonhas, porém, sem centralizar os atendimentos em uma única personalidade feat. médium.
