Kate Forster (Sandra Bullock) é uma médica solitária, que morava em uma casa à beira de um lago. Hoje esta casa é ocupada por Alex Wyler (Keanu Reeves), um arquiteto frustrado. Na minha visão, logo após o atropelamento e não ter entendido o fato, Alex se prendeu a Kate, principalmente porque os dois iriam se encontrar. Já Kate, sensível e envolvida com a situação, acabou absorvendo a energia de Alex e, com isso, ocorreu uma simbiose entre os dois. E os dois só conseguem se encontrar de fato e chegarem a um mesmo ano, digamos assim, após o desencarne de Kate que não foi explicado e simplesmente deixa no ar o que de fato aconteceu com ela.
